A British national has reportedly been killed while fighting alongside Ukrainian troops in eastern Ukraine, according to multiple UK media reports and confirmation from the UK government. The man was identified in several reports as 23-year-old Ayrton Redfearn from Devon.
According to reports, Redfearn died in the Donetsk region on May 9 while serving with a specialist unit supporting the Ukrainian army. His family said he had joined the unit in 2025 and had previously served with RAF cadets before traveling overseas.
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office confirmed the death of a British national in Ukraine and said it was supporting the family while remaining in contact with Ukrainian authorities.
Some reports also said Redfearn had been due to receive a bravery award for saving another soldier’s life shortly before his death
